And While We’re on the Subject of ‘A Millie’…Cha-lo vs Bangladesh
Check out Rahiem Shabazz’s blog to read up on the controversy over the ‘A Millie’ track. If you ask me, giving a sample to another dude who turns around and uses it to make a hit doesn’t make YOU the producer. If you’re fortunate enough to walk away with a check and a credit for your contribution to a major release thank God for your accomplishment and keep up the good work! Rather than spending your money to buy a plaque before the label issues the free ones (which is not the hot move), you should hire a good publicist and use the credit as leverage to land bigger and better placements of your own. Congrats to Bangladesh and Cha-lo, and thanks again Nelly for giving our tracks to Weezy in the first place!

Thanks for the post. However, Cha-Lo did more than create the sample, if you listen to the version he did more 3 years ago, it sounds 80% like the one Lil Wayne is rhyming over. Check it out on my site.
Also, read the agreement where he is listed as co-producer and on the album it states additional elements by Cha-Lo.
After he signed the agreement the contract was broken and he is not credited as the co-producer.

^^^i hear you brah, but i beg to differ! if you take cha-lo’s version and bangladesh’s version side by side, remove the “a millie” vocal sample from each, and compare the tracks…THEY SHARE NO SIMILARITIES! the sample is the only common thread (imo).
Furthermore, I also understand that it is close to impossible to ensure that the credits show up exactly the way the agreements state. I have given very precise instructions for many of my own placements and have still been surprised to find them incomplete, incorrect, and full of typos.

I think we can agree to disagree. However, when you make no mention of their being a co-producer and saying the contract is bogus then it becomes a problem. The saga is deeper then many will believe

Hey – thanks for the comment. Great blog. Added.
Back on YFWB, I schooled all those dummies who aren’t up on Maestro.
Peace!

I agree with you maestro! Take out the sample and there completely different even sonically! Cha’s version is more clean and bang’s version is more lofi-ish! I dont think weezy would have even fucked with cha’s version! Also I dont think you should get co-production credits for playing a basic pattern with a sample! Give him an additional programming credit though! I think bang deserves 100% of the production credit! I also think Cha didnt play this right politics wise! This could be the beginning of the end of his career or simply the end!

so not only did he buy a plaque, he wore that hat in the picture and then posted it everywhere!!!! WOW!!! hire a publicist and a stylist while you are out there, and if you need a few great ones i have them on deck…..

I think all of you, except Rahzilla, are missing the point. Why give Bangladesh credit for the sample when the only thing he changed was the drum track himself? If that’s the case, he didn’t do shit either. He should’ve just given his bogus ass drum track to Wayne and been laughed out the door. Bottom line is that Bangladesh is shady as shit for not sharing the spotlight and even if it is a sample that makes the track, he wasn’t even creative enough to come up with it himself, then tried to perpetrate like he did it. Yeah, right. He’s not that smart.

This is an interesting subject, and I’m not an “accomplished” producer like some of the cats that come thru here but IMHO the drums that Banladesh added make that track what it is…bravo to Cha-lo (ha that rhymes) for his contribution but bitching about it might affect future endeavors…If it were me I take the lose, learn, and move on.
Had his version been submitted I’m sure Wayne would have yawned and moved on.
BTW, who buys plaques for themselves? Isn’t that like buying your own diploma before graduation?…Damn!
